Difference between HDBaseT and SDI and HDMI  ?

What protocol is HDBaseT? It was launched by the HDBaseT Alliance formed by the home appliance manufacturers LG, Samsung, Sony and other companies from Japan and South Korea.

The HDBaseT interface uses an RJ45 connector commonly known as a crystal head. This technology enables you to connect all entertainment and content devices around you to achieve optimized transmission of uncompressed, ultra-high-definition digital media content.

Its core is that only one ordinary network cable can be used to integrate uncompressed high-quality video, audio, network, control signals and power (POE) functions together, and transmit through ordinary network cables as transmission cables, which is called 5Play technology.

HDBaseT 5Play technology can centrally transmit the following content through a 100-meter ordinary network cable :

1. Video

HDBaseT technology can transmit full HD or stereoscopic 4K*2K ultra-high resolution, uncompressed video data to single or multiple devices.

It supports all the features of HDMI1.4 high-definition video interface, including Consumer Electronics Control Channel (CEC), High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection Technology (HDCP), Electronic Program Menu (EPG), Extended Display Identification Data (EDID), unique features It ensures high-definition video quality and zero-delay transmission.

2. Audio

The audio of HDBaseT is directly transmitted by the HDMI chipset, so the audio transmission supports all high-definition audio formats, including Digital Theater System (DTS), DTS HD-Master Audio (DTS-HD MA), Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital than TrueHD technology (Dolby TrueHD).

3. Ethernet

The HDBaseT standard supports computers, televisions, audio systems, and other electronic devices to integrate and transmit any multimedia video and audio data streams in the 100M Ethernet environment. Also supports Ethernet backup mode.

4. Control signal

HDBaseT can simultaneously transmit a variety of control signals corresponding to different commands, such as Universal Serial Bus (USB), RS-232 communication interface, Consumer Electronics Control Channel (CEC), Infrared and Internet Protocol (IP) control signals.

5. Power (POE) function

In the HDBaseT standard application, the 100W DC power supply (POE) can also be powered through the Ethernet CAT5e/6 ordinary network cable.

The main advantage of its overall transmission is to provide convenience for users to use equipment at any time and reduce the use restrictions caused by power supply problems.

1. The optimal transmission distance of HDMI cable is only about 5 meters, which greatly limits the use range of high-definition devices, while the transmission distance of HDBaseT can reach 100 meters.

2. HDMI cables are expensive, while HDBaseT uses cheap CAT5/6 Ethernet cables as the transmission medium.

3. HDMI is a closed standard. Manufacturers need to pay a certain license fee to use the HDMI interface, while HDBaseT is an open standard and does not need to pay additional fees.

4. The HDBaseT standard currently supports a transmission rate of up to 20Gb/s, which can fully meet all uncompressed 1080p or clearer 4K*2K video transmissions.

HDbaseT HD transmission is simpler, only one network cable is needed

HDbaseT supports the highest transmission rate of 20Gbps, which can better support future 3D and 2K×4K video formats. The transmission adopts ordinary CAT5e/6 network cable, and the connector also adopts ordinary RJ45 connector, and the transmission distance reaches 100 meters. , in addition to providing video signal transmission function, also has network connection and Power over Ethernet (POE) function.

The transmission rate required for 4K signals is generally around 8Gbit/s, and if the refresh rate reaches 60Hz, a bandwidth of 18Gbit/s is required. The current digital interface, in their latest and highest version, has proposed the concept of supporting 3D and 4K.

Including DisplayPort1.2, HDMI 1.4, HDBaseT and dual-link DVI. These interfaces have their own advantages and disadvantages. Among them, HDMI and DVI ports are the current popular interfaces with many upstream and downstream supporting devices.

However, as a new technology interface, HDBaseT has broader technical development prospects.
