The so-called crystal head is the connector of our common telephone lines and network cables. Although the size is inconspicuous, it is an important part of the network cable and an important guarantee for the high-speed network transmission speed.


So, what is the difference between the network cable crystal head and the telephone crystal head? Can it be universal? Today, let's have a good chat.


1. Classification and application of crystal heads


At present, there are many types of crystal heads on the market, and there are many classification methods. Usually, they can be divided into network cable crystal heads and telephone crystal heads according to their functions; according to their structure and specifications, they can be divided into RJ45 crystal heads, RJ11 crystal heads, and RJ12 crystal heads. Next, let's take a look at their differences.


1. Network cable crystal head


The network cable crystal head, which is the common RJ45 crystal head, has 8 grooves and 8 contacts (8P8C), and it has two wire sequence standards (T-568A and T-568B), which are mainly used to connect various networks. Devices such as computers, routers, switches, etc.


At present, the commonly used network crystal heads (RJ45 crystal heads) include super five types of crystal heads, six types of crystal heads, and seven types of crystal heads. The main differences are as follows:


Super Category 5 crystal head: Eight holes are neatly arranged, the aperture is about 1.02mm, the maximum operating frequency is 100MHZ, and the speed can reach 100Mbps, mainly used in the 100M wiring system.


Six types of crystal head: eight holes are staggered up and down, the hole diameter is about 1.08mm, there are three branches on the upper part of the front contact, the contact area is large after crimping into the wire core, the maximum operating frequency is 250MHZ, and the speed can reach 1000Mbps, commonly used in Cabling system, while backward compatible with 100M network.


Seven types of crystal head: It is composed of two parts: the crystal head shell and the splitter module, and has a metal shielding design, which can more effectively eliminate the crosstalk between the wire pairs.


Eight holes are staggered up and down, the aperture is about 1.5mm, the maximum operating frequency is 600MHZ, and the rate can reach 1000Mbps. It is mainly suitable for seven types of 10 Gigabit network cables.


RJ45 8P8C: "RJ" (Registered Jack) indicates the registered jack, "45" indicates the serial number of the interface standard, "P" (position) indicates the hole position of the crystal head, and "C" (Contact) indicates the metal contact.


2. Phone crystal head


Phone crystal head, also known as voice crystal head, is mainly used in voice sales system, mainly in the following types:


RJ9 crystal head, 4P4C/4P2C two specifications, connecting the handset and the phone host;


RJ11 crystal head, 6P4C/6P2C two specifications, mainly used in telephones, telephone modules, telephone patch panels, ADSL splitters, program-controlled telephone switches and other equipment with RJ11 interface;


RJ12 crystal head, 6P6C specification, also suitable for voice communication.
