As a chip that converts parallel input signals into serial output signals, UART is usually integrated into other communication interface connections.

It is not a communication protocol like SPI and I2C, but an independent physical circuit or independent IC in a microcontroller.

In UART communication, two UARTs communicate directly with each other. Sending UART converts parallel data from control devices such as CPUs into serial form and sends it serially to the receiving UART. The receiving UART then converts the serial data back to the receiving device's parallel data. Only two wires are required to transmit data between two UARTs.

The biggest advantage of UART is that it can transfer data between devices using only two wires. UART interfaces are commonly referred to as RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485
