NMEA 2000 Micro 8 Way Drop Cable

Recreational boating can be a remarkable experience, but there are also inherent risks. No matter what water activity you enjoy, whether you buy, borrow or lease, it's your responsibility to make sure you're well trained and know how to stay safe.

Do you want to start boating but not sure what you need to do to get your boat ready for the water?

Here are five boating safety tips:

1. Put on a life jacket.

2. Don't damage your boat. Boating while under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs is not only illegal, but irresponsible as well. Enjoy a drink after docking or mooring.

3. Take a rowing lesson. Anyone operating a motor boat must have a cruise ship operator card. For your safety and that of your passengers, we recommend that you take additional boating lessons.

4. Get ready. Make sure your boat has all the required safety gear and enough fuel. Check the weather and tides for the area you are cruising. Make sure the conditions do not exceed your experience level or the capabilities of the ship. Share your travel plans with someone before you go.

5. Beware of cold water risks. Learn how to protect yourself.
