What is the RF cable?

 

RF cables connect the outputs and inputs of devices that send and receive radio frequency (RF) signals. Besides connecting devices, the main reason these interface cables are so necessary is that they are part of the "physical layer". It allows you to quickly transfer data from one device to another. The physical layer is part of the OSI model, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1980. It's a seven-layer model with a specific number of layers to make your cable work efficiently. Understanding the OSI model is important when designing stations that send and receive data.

There are many types of RF cables. They are composed of a variety of materials, including copper, glass and plastic. Some cables carry radio frequency data, while others carry audio and video signals. The type of cable you choose depends on how your workstation handles different signals and protocols. When designing the physical layer of your site, you will need to use the ISO recommendations for recording data over cables.

The main purpose of RF cables is to connect two or more devices. They are useful in radio, where the signal travels through the air and then connects to an antenna. You can use them on your TV to create a signal from your antenna to your TV. It then bounces off the antenna PCB again for reception by other TVs. We use them for military purposes on the many satellites that transmit information through space.
