How to Convert RS232 to RS485 and RS422?
Converting RS232 signals to RS-485 or RS-422 signals usually requires the use of a dedicated converter or conversion module. RS232, RS-485, and RS-422 are three different serial communication standards with different electrical characteristics and communication methods.
1. The main differences between RS-232 and RS-485 / RS-422
RS-232: Single-ended signal, usually used for short-distance communication (generally up to 15 meters). It uses voltage changes between a single signal line and ground to represent data.
RS-485: Differential signal, supports longer distances (up to 1200 meters) and allows multiple devices (multi-point communication). RS-485 uses two differential signal lines (A and B) for data transmission.
RS-422: Also uses differential signaling, similar to RS-485, but usually point-to-point communication (that is, only supports two devices). RS-422 supports higher transmission rates and longer transmission distances.

2. Selection of RS232 to RS485/RS422 converter
Functional requirements: Select the supported protocol (RS-485 or RS-422) according to the specific application, and whether to support multi-point communication of multiple devices.
Data rate and distance: Select the appropriate converter according to the transmission distance and rate required by the application. For example, RS-485 supports longer transmission distances (up to 1200 meters).
Hardware interface: The converter needs to provide a D-Sub 9-pin or DB-25-pin interface for RS232, and a corresponding interface for RS-485/RS-422 (such as a 3-pin or 5-pin terminal).

3. Actual conversion process
1) Connect the TXD (transmitter) and RXD (receiver) of RS232 to the input of the converter.
2) Connect the output of the converter to the A and B signal lines of the RS-485 or RS-422 device.
3) Configure the converter's operating mode (RS-485 or RS-422) and adjust parameters such as voltage, current, and transmission rate as needed.

4. Common RS232 to RS485/RS422 converters
USB to RS485/RS422 converter: suitable for modern computers without serial ports.
Serial port to RS485 converter: suitable for connecting traditional serial port devices to RS485 networks.
Industrial-grade converters: Some high-performance industrial converters support longer transmission distances and more device connections.
