NMEA 2000 is a low-cost data network using Controller Area Network (CAN) Integrated Circuit (IC) operating at 250 Kbps. It allows multiple electronic devices to be connected together on a common channel, making it easy to share information. NMEA 2000 cables and connectors are available in two styles: Mini-Change (7/8) for thick backbones and Micro-Change (M12) for thin backbones.


The MEA2000 standard contains requirements for serial data communications networks used to connect marine electronic equipment on ships. This standard describes a low-cost, medium-capacity bidirectional, multi-transmitter/multi-receiver instrument network for interconnecting marine electronic equipment.
