What does IP67 mean?

IP is the abbreviation of Ingress Protection Rating, which defines the protection capability of an interface against liquid and solid particles.

The IP is followed by two digits. The first is the solid state protection level, ranging from 0-6, which represents the protection from large particles of foreign matter to dust. The second is the liquid protection level, with the range of 0-8, which respectively represents the protection from the vertical water drop to the bottom pressure. The larger the number, the stronger the ability.

1             Prevent water droplets

2             When the shell is tilted to 15 degrees, water droplets will not affect the shell

3             Water or rain has no effect on the shell from a 60 degree corner

4             The liquid splashed onto the shell from any direction will not cause damage

5             Rinse with water without any injury

6             Prevent strong jet water, which can be used for the environment in the cabin

7             It can withstand immersion in a short time

8             Continuous immersion under certain pressure

IP67 protection level refers to the protection safety level, which refers to the protection against dust inhalation (overall protection against contact and dust penetration); Protection against short immersion (30 minutes in 1 meter deep water will not be affected).

In the cabling industry, the highest level is IP68.

In addition, industrial connectors also have temperature, seismic resistance and other considerations for other harsh environments. Not all systems provide high-level protection without any problems. High waterproof usually requires completely closed installation, which usually causes heat dissipation problems. System errors caused by overheating may occur, and additional cooling devices are required.
