What is the SCSI interface ? What's the difference with IDE interface ?
SCSI interface and IDE interface are relatively old interfaces.
They are both computer system interfaces.
Now only early computer users may be more aware of these two interfaces.

The SCSI interface is a system-level interface used between computers and smart devices (hard disks, floppy drives, optical drives, printers, scanners, etc.).

First, the specific use of SCSI
(1) The host adapter and eight SCSI peripheral controllers can be connected to the SCSI bus, and the peripherals can include magnetic disks, magnetic tapes, CD-ROMs, rewritable CD-ROM drives, printers, scanners, and communication equipment.
(2) It is also a multi-task interface with bus arbitration function. Multiple peripherals attached to a SCSI bus can work simultaneously. Devices on SCSI occupy the bus equally.

Second, the advantages of SCSI
(1) Multiple devices can be supported, up to 7 SCSI devices can be connected to SCSI-2 (FastSCSI), and 16 SCSI devices can be connected to WideSCSI-2 or above.
(2) SCSI also allows data to be searched by another device while transmitting data to one device.
(3) The SCSI device is also intelligent, and the SCSI card itself can queue up the CPU instructions, which improves the work efficiency.
(4) SCSI occupies very low CPU, and indeed has obvious advantages in multi-tasking systems. Since the SCSI card itself has a CPU, it can handle the affairs of the SCSI device.
Next, a brief introduction to the IDE interface:
It can be called "electronic integrated driver", or "integrated device circuit". Its original intention refers to a hard disk drive that integrates "hard disk controller" and "disk body". IDE is a type of disk drive interface, hard disks and optical drives are connected to the motherboard through the IDE interface. The controller circuitry resides in the drive, eliminating the need for a separate adapter card.
Finally, the difference between the two is :
(1) The working mode of IDE requires the full participation of the CPU, and the CPU cannot perform other operations when reading and writing data; while the SCSI interface completely controls the reading and writing operations of data through an independent high-speed SCSI card, so the CPU does not have to waste. Waiting for time can improve the overall performance of the system (but the IDE interface has also been improved after that, reducing the CPU usage).
(2) The scalability of SCSI is larger than that of IDE. Generally, each IDE system can have 2 IDE channels, and a total of 4 IDE devices can be connected, while the SCSI interface can connect 7-15 devices, which is much more than IDE. The cables connected are also much longer than IDE.
(3) In terms of cost performance, IDE had more advantages at that time, and the price of SCSI interface was generally more expensive than that of IDE interface.
